Switching to a Cheap LED Light SystemThe demand and use of LED lights have been growing almost exponentially. The LED Light is now 50 years old and is about to transform the lighting industry. The nexus for the growth appears to be China where they have perfected the art of cheap manufacturing and becoming quite proficient at promoting the concept at having a cheap LED light as a regular item in most homes and businesses.You can now find these lights in a very wide variety of applications. The lights were developed in 1962, when Nick Holonyak, was a young researcher at GE. He passed an electric current through a semiconductor made of gallium phosphide, and gallium arsenide, causing it to emit a red glow of visible light. He was prescient or bold enough to predict that this invention would one day replace the incandescent light bulb, that was invented by Sir Thomas Alva Edison.Since the 1970s, Light emitting diodes have appeared in a variety of colors that include not only reds, but yellows and oranges. They have been used successfully in various devices and appliances, as the costs of producing them continue to drop. The colours produced by the lights are controlled by the chemicals that are injected into the system. Sodium based lights are normally blue, and they have been in production since the 1980s.A milestone in the progression was the introduction of white light, and you can now find a cheap LED light to almost any everyday purpose. The technology has advanced far enough now that is cheap enough for the Swedish furniture maker Ikea to announce that they will only be selling these lights and fixtures in their stores worldwide. There appears to be a lack of knowledge that prohibits more rapid adoption, that may lead to lower prices.The general public is slowly becoming aware that LED lights use 75% less energy than incandescent lamps, while they last up to more than 25 times longer. A cheap LED light is much safer to operate than Cool fluorescents because they do not contain toxic materials such as mercury. They can be programmed to be dimmed and produce a much better quality of light. They may be more expensive, but the long-term paybacks, make them much more cost effective.In institutions where lighting is required constantly, such as in hospitals, payback can be achieved in as little as 3 months, if the right system and product is chosen....
